A new player in the world of AI orchestration is making waves, and it comes from the brains behind Lithuania’s unicorn success, Nord Security. Tomas Okmanas and Eimantas Sabaliauskas, the duo responsible for building NordVPN into a globally recognized brand, are now leveraging their expertise to address a significant gap in enterprise AI deployment. Their new venture, Nexos.ai, is poised to make the leap from AI pilot projects to full-scale production seamless for businesses.
Stepping out of stealth mode with $8 million in funding, Nexos.ai is aiming high. The funding round was led by Index Ventures, marking the firm’s first investment in Lithuania, with additional backing from Creandum, Dig Ventures, and notable angel investors, including CEOs from leading companies like Datadog, Klarna, Supercell, and Wix. According to Index Ventures partner Hannah Seal, “This was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up. Tomas has a proven track record, and his vision for this new project aligns perfectly with the needs of enterprises in the AI space right now.”
Nexos.ai focuses on solving critical challenges enterprises face in deploying large language models (LLMs). While AI holds transformative potential, moving from experimentation to reliable, cost-effective production is no small feat. Connecting various tools, ensuring security, managing costs, and maintaining uptime are significant hurdles many organizations struggle to overcome. Nexos.ai wants to change the paradigm by offering a platform that provides better visibility, security, and adaptability for companies working with AI.
The platform is designed to make it easier for companies to deploy and manage AI models, providing access to over 200 AI models through a simple API. From powerhouses like OpenAI and Anthropic to niche players, Nexos.ai ensures that users can switch between models seamlessly. This adaptability offers businesses resilience—if one service provider faces downtime or costs spike unexpectedly, Nexos.ai automatically reroutes operations to ensure business continuity.
Another standout feature is "intelligent caching." This functionality prevents unnecessary cost surges by drawing from cached responses when identical questions are repeatedly asked, rather than needlessly engaging the expensive AI model for every query.
Beyond cost and availability, Nexos.ai takes a strong stance on security, a growing concern for any enterprise thinking about adopting AI. The platform is equipped with safeguards to prevent the accidental sharing of sensitive data with third-party LLM providers. For example, if personally identifiable information (PII) is detected in a query, Nexos.ai reroutes it back to the company’s own infrastructure rather than processing it externally. For less sensitive interactions, such as users asking about store hours, the query is handled by Nexos.ai’s models, ensuring a balance between security and optimization.
Interestingly, the inspiration for Nexos.ai came from real-world frustrations that Okmanas and his team experienced while integrating AI into existing products. At Hostinger, another Tesonet-backed company where Okmanas is a board member, using OpenAI for its website-building tool led to unexpected operational challenges like steep costs and outages. These pain points became the catalyst for Nexos.ai’s development. The company aims to untangle the complexities of AI deployment, giving enterprises better control while cutting costs and reducing risks.
Despite being a new company, Nexos.ai has moved at a lightning pace thanks to Tesonet’s robust resources. Within six weeks, the idea transformed into a fully-formed corporation with a team of 30 seasoned professionals—most of whom had already worked with Okmanas on previous projects. This head start allows Nexos.ai to focus on delivering value to beta clients ahead of its planned full-scale launch by the end of March.
For Okmanas and his team, the timing couldn’t be better. Enterprises are now waking up to AI’s transformative potential, but they’re realizing they need scalable, reliable infrastructure to make it work. As Hannah Seal puts it, “We’ve gone beyond the hype phase. Companies now want practical AI solutions that deliver real outcomes. Nexos.ai is answering that call.”
The startup’s debut goes to show how an experienced team and the right timing can shake up even the most competitive industries. Nexos.ai may only just be getting started, but it’s already set its sights on enabling a future where AI isn’t just about experimentation—it’s about execution.
